rsync + PyBlosxom == bad

I didn't realise the consequences of using rsync to update the entries in my pyblosxom tree between the laptop and the server. At a glance over the man page for rsync, I don't see an option to preserve the mtime for each file being compared. As a result, every file is new again, which does wonders for messing up the metadata for the entries.

I have been in the habit of using a datestamp with each of the filenames, so not all the information is lost, but I'm not entirely sure how to recover that into an mtime value.

There has been some chatter on the PyBlosxom mailing list about changing the storage medium, which may offer other metadata possibilities. Maybe I should have a look at that myself, too.

Debian and Java

I've only had a couple attempts at making java code run on Debian Testing and Unstable. In both cases, sableVM and Kaffe were unable to provide all the functionality required. No love for FreeMind or Azureus. I might actually have to install a Sun version.

Late Night Sleeplessness

Reminder to self: get more than 3 hours sleep before heading off to the gym and then to a boring day at work. It's so much easier to stay awake that way.

I'm seriously hoping that this decision isn't going to affect my ability to stay awake in the french class tonight. I generally try to avoid offending teachers like that, especially when they're incredibly good looking...

Relaxing Weekend

Two highlights for the weekend. Saturday was dominated by a BBQ. I picked up Lisa and headed out around 3pm. We stayed for about 4 hours or so, but I wish I stayed longer. There was this girl... But I promised to get Lisa home in time to get to work at 7:30. I did have the best of intentions for getting a bunch of things done, too.

Sunday morning was turning into a nice day, and after my banana loaf was coming out of the over, I decided to head out for a bit of a walk. There is a lot of this city that I've never seen, so I walked down New North Road until I decided to turn. That happened to be at St Lukes. I managed a few kilometers of discovery, and while I was out, I got ahold of Shireen (the girl from the BBQ) and invited her out to an afternoon of jazz in Auckland Domain, so that's what we did. Another one of the girls from the BBQ caught up (Wei Lyn, but I'm not sure of the spelling) and Lisa showed up after.

It was a great weekend. Lots of sun, but lots of sunscreen, so I think I came out without a sunburn for a change.

Études intensifs

Je vais partir jeudi pour Nouvelle-Caledonie. Je veux utiliser beaucoup de français avant jeudi. Je comprends assez pour les vacances, je crois. Je doit parler plus, mais je n'inquiète pas.

Power Conditioning

I was doing a bit of research about New Caledonia this afternoon in Borders and the power flickered on and off on two occassions. A little while later, I decided to pop into a theatre and catch an afternoon showing of Robots. Luckily the only power flicker happened during the trailers. When it happened, though, I was beginning to wonder if the movie itself was going to be interrupted.

The movie turned out to be pretty good. Multi-level humour is always a good thing, in my opinion. Some of the adult jokes might have been accessible to the kids, though. Lines were definitely blurring at points.
